If You Like This… Then You’ll Like That!

Hi everyone! So for today, I am going to try to recommend books based on other books you might have read and enjoyed. This is a popular Youtube video idea but it still works here! I’ve tried my best to choose different types of genres as well. Let’s get started!

1. If you like:                                                     Then you might like:

starflight  zenithBoth of these books take place in space with badass female characters and space pirates. I think they both give off the same kind of vibe which is why I have grouped them together. Starflight follows a girl who is trying to escape her planet and live life on the outer rim where she doesn’t have to follow absurd rules. she finds herself with a crew who are running away from less than friendly people and tags along for the adventure. Zenith follows a group of girls who are known in the galaxy for their piracy and gives-no-shit attitude. when their past catches up with them, they are given an ultimatum: help the governor find his missing son, or be executed.

2. If you like:                                                    Then you might like:

missing  need.jpgThese two books don’t share many similarities when it comes to plot, however, the feeling that I got when reading them both are the same. Missing is about a small town that no one who lives in really likes. The majority of teenagers in high school have a plan to leave the town once they graduate like so many did before them. When Winter discovers a body in the woods, threads of her smalltown life start to unravel and she begins to wonder if the people actually left or if they’re really just missing. Need, on the other hand, is all about this new social media app that grants you anything you wish for. you just ask for something you “need”, complete a task and your wish is granted to you. When the tasks start getting more and more extreme and the body count rises, Kaylee must discover who is actually behind this “game” and she learns how far people are willing to go to get what they need. Both books share a thriller type feeling that leaves the reader on edge.

 3. If you like:                                                   Then you might like:

Fangirl.jpg  Geekerella  These two books are super adorable, cute and so well written. Fangirl follows a girl named Cath who is in her first year of college. Cath is an introvert who loves to read and write fan-fiction and would rather be doing that than going out to parties like her twin sister. It follows her path to self-discovery and how she handles all the stress that comes with living away from home. Geekerella is a magnificent, modern-day retelling of Cinderella and was one of my favourite books of 2017! It follows Elle, a young girl living with her two step-sisters and step-mother after her father passes away. When she finds out there is going to be a remake of her favourite series, she’s less than happy to find out who’s playing the main character. it’s told from two points of view; neither of them knowing who the other one really is although they continue talking every day. When the series convention comes around, Elle will do whatever it takes to go but she is met with something she wasn’t quite ready to find. These books are just….😍

4. If you like:                                                   Then you might like:

sea of shadows.jpg           the winner's curse.jpgBoth of these fantasy trilogies are action packed, fast paced and full of emotion. Sea of Shadows reads like a traditional high fantasy story with magic, political intrigue and badass characters. When the spirits of the damned are awakened, twin sisters Ashyn and Moira are faced with monsters they never thought were real. The world is being ravaged by mythical beasts and it’s up to them to set it right. grouped with an imperial guard and an exiled thief, they set out to warn the emperor of the future dangers, however, a frightening secret awaits them in court. The Winner’s Curse is more of an urban fantasy set in a different world. Kestrel is the daughter of the governor of her country so her only options are to join the military or marry; however, Kestrel has a different idea. When she connects with a slave up for sale, she instantly buys him, but she has to keep her feelings for him hidden. It isn’t long before she discovers that he has a secret of his own and the price she paid may have been more than she was willing to part with.

That’s all I have for now. I hope you enjoyed this and hopefully, it helped you find some books you might enjoy. Until next week,

Sincerely,

B ❤

My Fictional Bucket List

Hey Bookies! Don’t you ever wish you could meet your favourite fictional characters in real life? Not only meet them but actually get to hang out with them!? Well, me too. So today I would like to share my fictional bucket list with you guys; just some activities I wish I could do with some of my favourite characters from YA literature. Let’s get started! >>>>>

(These are not in any particular order)

Create a book club with Hermione Granger, Tessa Gray and Becca Hatcher

Wouldn’t these be the best book club ever? I mean I can’t wait to discuss!

Go to Comic-Con with Simon Lewis and Ella Wittimer

These two together. I’m a big nerd but I don’t think even I could keep up with them! It would be so much fun though!

Flying around with Jace Herondale (on a vampire motorcycle) and Superman/Clark Kent

Wow… I can’t even imagine how thrilling this would be (insert heart eyes emoji here). Can this be real!?

A Classical Concert with Jem Carstairs

Jem carstairs.jpg

The Infernal Devices is my favourite series and Jem Carstairs is my favourite character in the series. Therefore, it is only fitting that on my fictional bucket list, we get to hang out alone… I think that’s fair xD I think a nice classical concert or opera type thing would be right up his style. Maybe we’d even crash it and Jem could perform for ME ❤

Pod Racing with R2-D2, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Poe Dameron

r2d2  obiwan kenobi  poe dameron

Although it is pretty obvious that Poe would win… I mean he is the “best damn pilot the resistance has ever seen” but it would still be awesome to fly around on pod racers right!??

Study magic with Magnus Bane, Sirius Black and Nina Zenik

Screen Shot 2018-02-21 at 2.04.16 PM.png

PLEASE CHECK OUT MERWILD ON REDBUBBLE. SHE IS THE ARTIST BEHIND THIS BEAUTIFUL EDITION OF NINA ZENIK. She has so much more amazing pieces. Check her out HERE.
If I took pointers from these amazing magic users I think I could be the greatest of all time. Don’t you think?

Hack into some top secret files with Kady Grant and Linh Cinder

cinder  Illuminae

With Cinder’s robotic enhancements and Kady’s brains, we could probably get ourselves into a lot of trouble! This would be some serious girl power besides, they would have a lot of experience running away from any government officials… right?

Doing any of these activities would be awesome! I would love to know if you guys have anything on your fictional bucket list. Even if it’s just going out for coffee with someone, I’d love to know!

Thanks for reading as always and I’ll be back next Thursday!!

Sincerely,

B ❤

My Top 5 Books of 2017!

Hey everybody! Wow, it has been a very long time. I know, I know… BUT I’m going to try really hard to post on here once a week even if it’s something short.

Today I’ve created a list of my top 5 favourite books that I read in 2017. ( This list is not limited to books that were released in 2017 but ALL books that I read throughout the entire year). Let’s get started!

I read a total of 35 books in 2017. (28 novels, 1 compilation of short stories and 6 graphic  novels). A little shy of my target but I’ve been going through a serious reading slump that I just can’t seem to shake.

Without further ado, let’s get onto my list! >>>>

No. 5 : P.S. I Like You – Kasie West

PS I like you

This book is all about first impressions and how people aren’t always what they appear to be. It’s a cute love story between two teenagers who really learn to be themselves and find each other through a common interest.

No. 4 : Midnight Jewel – Richelle Mead

Midnight Jewel

This book is interesting because of its format. Yes, it’s the second book but it’s not a sequel. It tells the story of Mira and her experiences in the Glittering Court so while it does overlap the events that take place in the first book, this one is entirely its own. Three words: love, politics, pirates. If any of those intrigues you, then pick this up!

No. 3 : The Cinder Chronicles – Marissa Meyer

(I know this isn’t one book but shh I’m not cheating!)

The Lunar Chronicles  This series is GOLD! Sci-fi is one of my favourite genres and this series did not disappoint. It deals with the ever present idea of technology replacing humans and the creation of true AI. We follow a 16 year old cyborg who tries to find her place in a society where she isn’t wanted, however, her greatest secret may just save the people who hate her. Each book brings new characters and new fairytale retellings that tie into Cinder’s overall story.

(Alright fine, if I had to pick one my favourite was probably Winter)

No. 2 : Geekerella – Ashley Poston

Geekerella

What can I tell you about this book? It’s amazing! This book is for every fangirl or boy out there who has ever felt that their likes/interests have separated them in any way from the rest of society. It’s a modern day retelling of Cinderella and it is done so wonderfully that you won’t be able to wipe the smile off your face. Definitely my favourite contemporary of the year.

And finally, rolling in at number 1. My favourite book of 2017 was………………..

( ———imagine a drum roll———-)

No. 1 : Lord of Shadows – Cassandra Clare

Lord of Shadows

I don’t even know why this is supposed to be a surprise. I’m sure this book is many people’s number one read of 2017, but holy guacamole! (That’s still a saying, right?) This book was a roller coaster of emotions in all the good ways that Cassandra Clare makes me feel. As usual, I was crying, laughing, gasping and overall thrilled with Lord of Shadows. I don’t know how she does it but with every shadowhunters book, she manages to make it better and better.

And that’s it for my top 5 books that I read in 2017! I hope you enjoyed this little wrap up and I would love to know what your favourite books of last year were!

As always, follow me on Goodreads and Instagram

Sincerely,

B ❤
